The Mississippi State Ice Dawgs are back in action! The team kicked off the 2014-2015 hockey season with an interest meeting during the first week of classes. The meeting brought in several new recruits, returning players, and a few walk-ons. The team showed a new level of confidence and eagerness in anticipation of the new season.
The Ice Dawgs are excited to have new talent from cities including Boston, Albany, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The first on-ice practice was held this past Sunday. The Ice Dawg’s closest practice ice is in Pelham, Alabama — two and a half hours away from Starkville, Mississippi. The team caravanned to Pelham, giving everyone a chance to bond before taking the ice together. Within the first few minutes, the team was working together and challenging each other. Every player showed incredible improvement from the previous season.
In addition to on-ice practices, the team also practices twice a week in Starkville. They have a stick handling practice at Moncreif Park, as well as a strength and conditioning practice at the Sanderson.
Ice Dawg’s President, Scott Polley expressed his excitement for the upcoming season. “We are all excited about the upcoming season. With a strong recruiting off season and a fresh Executive Board, we seem to be finding our groove and getting our system down. I am proud of our player’s dedication to the team, school, and community of Starkville and Tupelo on and off the ice. I believe this year is going to be our strongest season yet.”
