SECHC GOTW: Mississippi State at Auburn

The first ACHA D-III rankings were released last weekend and the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference has three members in the top 10. Arkansas is ranked second in the Pacific region and in the South region, South Carolina holds the fifth spot and Vanderbilt holds the tenth.

MSUatAUBAlmost all SECHC teams are in action this weekend, but the SHSB SECHC Game of the Week takes you to Columbus, GA as Auburn hosts Mississippi State.

Tale of the Tape:

Mississippi State is opening their season on the road with high expectations for 2014-15. Still an affiliate member of the SECHC, the Ice Dawgs hope their play this season will help them gain full membership.

Auburn is coming off some lopsided losses, but they’re still looking at the positives. The absence of a true netminder and multiple injuries has plagued the Tigers early on this season. After using a forward between the pipes against Georgia Tech and Arkansas, the Tigers have found a goaltender with some experience.

Key Factors for Mississippi State:

Knock the Rust Off Early: First game jitters are always prevalent during the season opener.

Shots on Goal: Seems pretty obvious, but peppering the netminder will prove beneficial since Auburn has allowed 72 goals in six games.

Key Factors for Auburn:

Netminder: The Tigers new goaltender will be crucial to a victory.

Grit: Something this team is not lacking whatsoever. The Tigers need to play hard and keep up the intensity.

Both teams will be looking for their first win, but Auburn will notch their first this weekend.

Actually those “rankings” are actually just the standings as teams play games. They will have very little bearing on the regional rankings as they are released.
